@uoya Apple recently paused the rollout of an automated system that would scan images on your iPhone against a remote database and report you to a human moderator if it thinks you have illegal photos. If Apple gets lent on by your government and expand the scope beyond child pornography, and then rolls the system out to macOS devices too, then you might have a hard time selling your device on the second hand market.https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/3/22655644/apple-delays-controversial-child-protection-features-csam-privacy

@uoya in reality I think Apple will probably accept that their customers do not want on-device scanning of their data and quietly drop the system now that the controversy is buried under favourable publicity for the new(ish) line of Macbook Pro laptops. But you did issue a challenge, so thought I'd make you aware! 🤷♂️😂

@uoya you're asking the feDIVERSE, not the feMONOPOLY, which means you don't really want an Apple computer.

@uoya buy one! I have an M1 Air. Hands down the best laptop I’ve ever owned by a large margin.

@TrechNex @uoya my understanding is that the file hashes for comparison are stored locally, so there’s nothing remote unless there’s a hit. Plus, Google and FB already do this, again, as I understand it.The TL;DR from my perspective on that whole mess is that I’d prefer Apple don’t do it at all, but if they are gonna do it, this seems to be a good implementation of the technology.Oh, we’re also talking about MacOS here, not iOS.

@uoya the software my company writes does not work on the M1 and we need to do a lot of work. So a lot of old software will not work. When the M2, M3, MX comes out, will your hardware and software be supported?

@uoya unlike Intel, Apple is not incentivised to make sure code written for an old processor works on the new processor. Planned obsolescence

@uoya don't need 3 days. for half the price you can get twice the specs in a comparable style/substance package. notebook tech is so mature, there's no rational to pay a premium for hype and brand anymore. but we both know you're going to get it anyway.
