Remember a few days ago when I posted about considering a migration to #Hugo?Well, I tried it. I also tried #Jekyll (again). Yup, I remember why I moved back to #WordPress now. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

@joeligj12 nah, I always do this. I can’t help but fiddle, learn something new and raise the new shiny is no better and i should stay put.

@kev I am too stubborn to try another framework until I'm satisfied with the #rust-#rocket horror I'm doing to my website. After that… dunno…. Maybe #jekyll?

@kev I'm curious, what is the issue with Hugo ?I've used to have wordpress a long time ago but I think it's became a very overkill tool.Jekyll, I didn't understood how it's working. That's why I like Hugo, simple to use and quick. The main issue is to find a suitable template and learn how to use it I think (and that's why I've made my own).

@kev as someone with both a Hugo (shom.dev) and a WordPress (shom.bandopadhaya.com/photos) site, I can empathize. For me the only thing keeping me on WordPress has been for photography plugins (EXIF info aware lightbox and an optimizing plugin for image quality/size trade off).I can also see multiple files juggling for Hugo can be sub-optimal. I'm using emacs with ox-hugo so I only edit one file, commit, and push to auto-deploy (screenshot: shom.dev/posts/org-bars-view-for-outlining-folding/)

@Wivik @gikari answering you both at once…There’s nothing wrong with Hugo, its about what’s right for me, I suppose. I like the WP workflow and automation (like image optimisation and sending my posts via newsletter). Those things are far more difficult to achieve going static.Plus, the shit tonne of work to actually redesign my site (I’d want it to look the same as i love the current design) and migrate all my posts.

@nathan ive used Jekyll before, and still do for a couple of sites, it’s just too much hassle.Markdown is great for basic formatting, but once you going outside of that lane even slightly (img with a caption for example) you have to revert to HTML.

@kev @Wivik @gikari In my case, post migration and the newsletter were easy because there are migration scripts (which worked perfectly) and there are RSS to newsletter services. The redesign is a lot of work.

@mwt no doubt there’s work arounds that i can do. Bit i like how wordpress is just, hit publish and the site does the rest.Plus I’ve been making some changes at the back end to reduce my reliance on premium plugins, and therefore cost.@gikari @Wivik

@kev @nathan Shortcodes come handy for the situations like this. Check here, for instance: https://hugoloveit.com/theme-documentation-built-in-shortcodes/
