I feel rough so decided to work from the couch today. I've been on video meetings for ~5 hours of my ~8hr day and my #Macbook has been on battery power the entire time.I still have 46% battery left. Screenshot attached for any non-believers. 🙃This thing really is incredible.

Yeah the Apple Silicon battery life and performance has definitely lived up to the hype for me. I wish there were non-Apple ARM laptops that could get to its performance and energy usage levels.

@kev I say us the FOSS crowd should actually *learn* from these guys. There are obvious benefits for a vast majority of users in having a tightly knit system like Mac's is. Yes, there's a lot of fun in your usual Linux distro... if you are into that sort of thing... But if you want usability and great UX, I'm sorry, Apple is the reference. Glad you love it!But I guess the FOSS world is way too proud and full of themselves to understand this. #rant

@hankg yeah, hopefully that will trickle down to other ARM platforms. I really do think x86 days are numbered.

@arivigo that's not the point of preferring Foss. The problem is that Apple software is non-free and you cannot be sure what they do with your data. If you don't mind or don't care then Apple clearly is the reference.I'd very gladly use it as my work machine, but I don't trust non-free software with my personal data.@kev

@dajbelshaw @fedops it’s a personal choice, right? From my perspective, my data isn’t synced to iCloud, it’s synced to my personal Synology.Yeah, they could be doing nefarious stuff with everyone’s data, but i don’t see that as their business model. This isn’t Google or FB we’re talking about here, where hoovering up data is the order of the day. This is Apple, who makes money from very expensive hardware. I’m ok with paying that premium to not have to piss about with my system.@arivigo

@arivigo @kev 2/2 By the way This New M1 MAC cannot run everything, it will take time and some of the code cannot be ported or Efficently Emulated, Lastly one of the promises of M1 was reduced cost... Wothac Pro M1 Pro/Max where it is.. and Don't give argument of additional Two Cores or more GPU cores as these are ARM 8, then how about Chinese Kirin Cores...

@alacer @arivigo I don't need Teams for anything. Like I said, I'm yet to find any applications that don't work with the M1.

@kev @arivigo Well That's your case.... Its not applicable to all... And Its Natural for a new Architecture to take some time for platform integration... Rest lets see How much it effects like brew pakage manager. I am not aware about Apple Silion's ISA compatability but hope ARMv8 Binaries should work

@alacer Brew works fine with my M1 chip in my experience. Someone else also posted that Teams works for them on their M1. @arivigo
