I'm glad AP has a pull model. Maybe it would fix it in that case if the other side knew to ask for the data. There is no equivalent on D*, which I was more familiar with at the time. I'm rusty on both since I abandoned development of any fediverse platform a couple years ago minus some test harness development around Mammoth back in 2020 (I think).

Would that post ever show up on their timeline for a user to begin with if they are on a remote server?

That's another major UX bug in my mind too, now that you bring that up. It has knock on effects like remote servers needing to keep all posts/comments it ever sees rather than just ones it generates and re-querying for additional posts as needed for backfill.

Paul Byrne2021-12-29 02:44:30Now this is COOOOOOOL―watch this video from @SungrazerComets showing how the tail of Comet Leonard developed over ten days, from December 10th through the 22nd.See how it wiggles from side to side? That's the tail *literally* blowing in the solar wind. https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1476019827076706304/pu/vid/852x720/8jLZ2EKy1_We9gmo.mp4?tag=12

For sure caching but with an age out would deal with 99% of the traffic. For the cases where someone is traversing data way in the past that's where the requery would come in, or some way to ask for additional window fetch. Matrix federation has something like this IIRC.

I can't tell if this is satire or not since their "elegant example" is using the iostream *objects* which are very much written with OOP.

I haven't tried to use PeerTube as a primary platform for a couple of years. Back then, and sounds like still, content discovery was completely insufficient. That was even on-instance, and I was on a larger one. Finding stuff across federated instances was even worse. Still I posted some videos to a new instance (old one died) as well as YouTube last year: https://tube.tchncs.de/c/hanks_source_code_visualizations/videos?s=1

Seriously does anyone have a recommendation for a good daily newspaper in the US? Washington Post, the last one I could stomach, seems to be becoming as shitty as NYT. Our media is so fundamentally broken.

When I was on Facebook I actually had several news and politics groups I frequented which were actually constructive for the most part. But we ultimately are linking to dailies a lot so the same problem.

Is it possible to not smile listening to the Charlie Brown theme song if you grew up watching those holiday cartoons? I had never seen it performed before though, by the last living member of the original performers on drums no less. #history #music youtube.com/watch?v=OODA_K…

Exactly. You want to expedite the demise of a system just flood it with the batshit crazy nonsense. It happens every time. Hell even the "muh freedomz" platforms the Trumpists setup like Gettr and Parler end up needed to have moderation of some sort. Even with that they are total dumpster fires compared to Twitter, Facebook, or the greater fediverse.

I was thinking it was just some funny WAV file they maybe downloaded off the internet way back in the day. That sort of stuff was on websites or even AOL message boards everywhere.
