#FediPoll It is a criticism that is sometimes made but is linux really 'too difficult'* for the average computer user?*'too difficult' can cover a myriad of things: unfamiliar softwares, confusingly too many package managers, different paradigms, command line vs. gui, etc.

@dublinux it isn't necessarily "too difficult", but it does tend to have a lower tolerance for user stupidity, which could be called "too difficult"

@dublinux Define "use".Give a normal person a Linux machine already set up, and they might at best find the browser. They're going to be very unhappy/get fired if they try to do Office work with Libre/OO-Office.Watching Netflix is impossible, most distros will insult them for using non-"free" DRM for a service they paid for. "Just follow these 15 steps in whatever terminal is installed, including downloading literal hacks from outlaw countries to avoid the RIAA.It only gets worse.#linux

@mdhughes @dublinux What are you talking about? I have literally never had the issues you're talking about. Granted, I never used LibreOffice at a job I was paid for, but it served me well in school, and I interned at a radio station that used OpenOffice.

@evilroda @dublinux That's adorable. Now, give your corporate drone family member of choice the same setup and watch them melt down and lose their job.

@mdhughes @dublinux Thanks for talking down to me, asshole. Netflix worked out of the box for me and I have never run into a situation where I didn't have sudo privileges. You're either lying, or you're using something nobody would recommend to a normie.

@dublinux Nobody normal wants to know what distro & version they have to find obscure packages and install with sudo apt-get. "Oh, right you aren't in sudoers yet, so first log in as root…"It's preposterous. Even in the "nice" distros it's a mass of bad wiring under a very thin cover.Of course my bias is, I'm a Mac user… normals get along OK here, because there's MS Office & Adobe apps, Netflix just works, music just works. Updates are easy. And underneath we have a better UNIX than Linux.

@evilroda @dublinux I am being condescending, because you're talking out your ass with no experience. When I say "Office" I mean MS, not just "write a memo", but tasks like "you have to read, make changes and annotations in Word and Excel sheets, and return it in the exact same format to your co-workers, in Outlook or Teams".If you haven't personally had these problems, that's nice for you, but that's just a vast inexperience with seeing normal people fail to use Linux.

@mdhughes @dublinux That's only one of your points, which I have no experience in, although I do know you can use Office on the web if you're so in love with it. You still lied about Netflix.

@evilroda @dublinux I certainly did not lie about anything, and you'll not repeat that kind of slander at me a second time.I've never seen a Linux setup with Netflix-capable DRM default. It's always been "install this dodgy shit from other countries", because it is illegal DMCA circumvention.According to search, you can do it if you have ChromeOS or Ubuntu that preinstalls Chrome and Netflix hasn't broken HTML5 this week? But everyone else requires DRM in the browser.

@mdhughes @dublinux Then how am I able to watch Netflix in Firefox with no issues and without installing anything extra? Who's talking out of their ass here?
