Today a friend and I discussed our rural retirement fantasies, and she said “but I wouldn’t want to live in Trump Country.” Even now? Maybe I’ve been too coddled and just don’t know firsthand how bad Trumpsters are. All I know is Liberals are awful, so it’s hard to imagine Trumpspunkers being worse. I think it would be kind of cool to have Trumpster neighbors who would stay out of my business and I’d stay out of theirs, except to recognize our neighbor-ness, and perhaps tolerate our differences. I imagine, or fantasize, that it’s easier to tolerate big differences than little ones, and very different people give each other more room and respect to be different. I’ve really been traumatized by the libtards here.

@nina I'm in a small rural-ish town and I promise you that the majority of truly redneck neighbors do not stay out of your business and tolerate differences lol. The Trump ppl really are as bad as it gets most of the time.

@nina Agreeing with the other commenter. I am born and raised and have lived in the deep south my entire life. I'm in SC currently. No, I'm not itching to move to the San Francisco Bay Area or anything but Trump Country is not a good place to live, particularly not for women. These people are deeply and proudly ignorant, entitled, and reactionary. There's a decent chance that they may react to feminist ideals with real, physical violence, or at the very least, property damage. Just look at the response to the pandemic and to being asked to take the most low-effort actions to prevent the spread/overwhelm of COVID in most red states. They're really off-the-shits crazy out here.I can't recommend moving to conservative, rural areas. Not worth the risk.It's possible that some states/cities with a more "libertarian" vibe are better, but I haven't looked into it yet.

I know if a transwoman pulls a Dana Rivers on me, it's not even going to make the news at the LGBTQ, and there won't be a word from liberals and Democrats anywhere. @dreamy @nina I'm not in the south, and libertarian men tend to be just as bad if not worse. Some conservatives aren't rednecks but I have yet to meet a guy that calls himself a libertarian and doesn't own like 5 assault rifles and an obnoxious don't tread on me flag. A lot of the weirdo militia dudes (like the ones that tried to kidnap the governor of Michigan) are libertarians.

@LuvGreenTea2019 Ok. And the violence against women here is the exact same and no one gives a shit and the police will more than likely not lift a finger to help women trapped in abusive marriages. My mother was with a man who beat her for decades and the cops never helped, not even once. A female cop even blamed her for it. I am sorry if I sound snappish, but I want to stress that this fantasy that it's better where people are less tolerant of trans/queer bullshit is indeed a FANTASY. They are intolerant for a reason, and they're not selective about it. Their homophobia is just a different strain than the kind you're dealing with currently. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend.

@nina It really varies. Spending my retirement in a neighborhood lined with trans flags sounds like a nightmare, but my worst neighbor happened to be a Republican. We never discussed politics, but he was a terrible person and I happen to know he was Republican.The best areas are probably politically mixed or centrist, and I'm not just saying that as a cop out. My current area comes fairly close to that, though it's a bit on the progressive side.

@nina I coincidentally lived in the most conservative city in Canada when I was at my leftist. Aside from cashiers, bus drivers, etc., starting up conversations about Jesus out of nowhere, it was pretty much as you describe. Friendly and neighbourly, but live and let live.

@nina Hate to be a both-sideser here. But it seems that each time one side gets in power and start behaving like tyrants, the other appears more palatable. Whether it’s due more to looking better by comparison, or playing nice until they’re back on the throne, or being joined by more sensible people who dislike the other side, I don’t know.Most of my hatred is directed at liberals right now for everything from selling out women to attacking civilians over political grievances. But I’m sure the reasons why conservatives are a nasty bunch will come back to me once they’re in charge again.Except for forced-birth activists. Those are everywhere and I despise them all.

@nina You seriously don't want to live around out-and-proud txxxpers. I'd say stay outside of cities and live in moderate areas where people have mixed views. There are a lot more people who don't like the trans agenda than do, and they're going to be in smaller towns and cities and further from the coasts.

@dreamy I'm sorry that you live in an area where you don't feel safe. I am NOT saying that women should move to cities and states where there are a lot of conservatives. I'm not telling women to move to Alabama, Arkansas, or Mississippi. I'm saying I feel very unsafe knowing that I could get the crap kicked out of me for being a TERF, and the liberals would do nothing whatsoever. In fact, they would cheer it on. And, trans and Antifa always show up at the same time. Antifa sure the fuck would bash a woman with a brick. At the Wi Spa protest in Los Angeles, Antifa and trans were there to terrorize the peaceful women protesters. There were some conservative, religious types, but gender critical women were there too. Trans and their Antifa buddies harassed, assaulted, and terrorized everyone, including women who were peacefully protesting. There has to be a better place than conservative states that ban abortion and turn a blind eye to domestic violence, and woke liberal states where "TERFs" and lesbians who won't suck lady dique are fair game to be terrorized if they step out of line. There has to be a place where moderate, sane people can live in peace. In our misogynistic world, it's nearly impossible to find a place that is safe for women. The far left with TERF hating trans and Antifa are just as dangerous to women as the far right. There has to be something better. And, as for politics, I'm an Independent/Green/Libertarian who used to be Democrat.
