I went to the Post Office. The woman behind the counter had the most enormous false eyelashes. They were like huge, hairy caterpillars, attached to each eyelid.They looked absolutely ridiculous. I couldn't take my eyes of them, for all the wrong reasons.

@fitheach We once met a railway conductor whose fingernails were about 10 cm long. No exaggeration. It was very hard to look anywhere but at her alternately pink and purple lacquered and pointedly filed claws.She managed to tap on the ticket machine in her hand.

@aujawindar This was a Post Office embedded in a grocery store (Spar). Embedded POs have become common in the last decade. Successive governments have been pushing an agenda of privatising elements of the Post Office service.

@Nasenspray It is a wonder you could do any work with fingernails that long.I have a work colleague who used to have false fingernails, shaped to a point. They really looked like claws. She still managed to type things on her smartphone, using the pads of her fingers. The fingernails would still touch the screen, and made a clickety noise as she typed.

@fitheach Yes, exactly. Very distracting. Whenever my fingernails start making noises while typing I have to cut them short.

@musicmatze @Nasenspray I mostly use my thumbs for smartphone typing. I suppose, I could get away without cutting the other fingernails. Not going to happen, I always keep my fingernails short.

I've just returned from a visit to the local Post Office. It was a different woman behind the counter, but, with the *same* eyelashes. They might even be the *same* eyelashes. Y'know, the eyelashes get handed-over for each new shift. Post Office issue eyelashes. Part of the uniform.
