@kmj @joacim Didnt proxmox completely go bonkers for you once with a FC-SAN?

@selea @kmj Yep. It requires multipath if used in a multi-host configuration and my SAN was too old up-to-date Linux support as it requires drivers for the SAN. At least that's how I understood it. It's also a question about which file system to use - you need to use LVM which offers it's own can of worms.

@joacim @selea it looks like IBM v3700 should work, but looks like main question is filesystem. lvm or zfs. It seems vmware vmfs has some advantages here, but i would prefer to move from vmware vcenter to proxmox cluster in a situation never will happen there again in the next 10 years. if there is already a lot of stuff running, chances to move things are seldom.

@selea currently 3 vmware esxi in a cluster using vcenter fc-san connected to v3700. i need to replace 2 or 3 of the servers, and this would be the chance to move off vmware but it looks a bit risky because there i no much to find about it, also not in proxmox forum. so decission is hard to find.@joacim

@kmj @selea VMware has it's own cluster aware file system which is why it works so damn well. I'd suggest you keep it that way. Proxmox in a cluster config works best with local storage and Ceph IMHO.

@kmj @selea I've never had great success with Proxmox in a cluster config. ESXi is by far the best virtualization platform IMHO - easier to grow in and far more stable and polished than Proxmox.

@joacim Personally, I have deployed proxmox for production use a couple of time, and for us and those companies it has been stable and no real issues.Never tried it with a FC-SAN thou,@kmj

@selea @kmj Proxmox works, but there are more caveats to "works" with Proxmox than ESXi. I run Proxmox on my Colo server and it has been running just fine nonstop for 6-7 months now without so much as a hitch. It not always the big things that makes a difference but the small things and in this case it's the small tings that makes me like ESXi more.

@joacim Well, it kinda depends on how much time you are willing to spend compared to the cost of licenses. :)@kmj

@joacim Free for non-commercial use yes.But it is a money-pit if you want to run it in a HA-environment at a company. @kmj

@selea @kmj Oh yeah - the cost of VCenter is no joke for sure but you can still run several ESXi hosts with one central SAN without Vcenter.

@joacimproxmox has cluster features included. till now i never had problems with the cluster, but use local storage. this would be the first setup using a fc san@selea

@kmj @selea I know Proxmox has cluster functions included. If you read my answers in this thread it should be pretty clear by now...

@selea @kmj No. HA and live migration and stuff like that requires VCenter.
