Festival conference starts tomorrow always one of my highlights of the year. Can’t attend too much this year though. But there is so much great stuff, if your into making and designing games this is the place to be this week!

@adamprocter All power to the gals working in tech in general. All Humans, should be treated with the same respect. If theres issues involving mistreatment, power to them! That being said, this festival says to be about gender equity and parity. Both basically mean 50/50 representation of male and women in the field. This will never happen so long as women retain low interested in the stem field. Is parity really that important?

@Metruzanca we need to encourage more women / girls to stay interested in stem and steam. Pay equality is a no brainer. Representation of who makes games versus who plays games is very much out of whack. So that’s why there is a work to get more of the player base represented in the making space. One of many reasons also Games can and have huge impact on society and so it’s really important that there is lots of diversity in the people that also create them.

@adamprocter pay equality... Exactly what I expected to hear. I agree with everything else you've said. Diversity is a great thing. It brings in new ideas. But let's stop with the incorrect facts. Focusing on ethereal problems slows down progress.Pay inequality is illegal in most countries (in the US since 1963).The wage gap is the result of incorrect interpretation of statistics. Journalists should have a statistician proof read more often before they publish their "breaking news" posts.

@Metruzanca facts are very important yes. I should have been clearer I am mainly nodding towards the gender pay gap, although I have seen pay inequality. And my own focus is on supporting diversity in the broader terms Here is some data on the pay gap issues in games https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-04-08-gender-pay-gap-widens-in-uk-games-industry

@adamprocter this is a slippery slope. As pay gap is not equivalent to equal pay for equal work. Most articles compare across levels, just like the one you linked: "While the data is not detailed enough to provide an examination of equal pay for equal work"They proceed to blow it off as not important but it's really important. They also don't say anything about overtime which men are far more likely to do.https://scholar.harvard.edu/files/bolotnyy/files/be_gendergap.pdf From the intro "men do 83% more overtime".
