@picandor @coolboymew When I was in junior high, Akira had just come out and bootleg VHS copies were considered the starting point into anime. Later on when I was in college, Ninja Scroll assumed that spot for a new generation. Thank god they haven’t fucked with either of those movies, but I suppose it’s just a matter of time.

@ThreeOneThreeChris Cowboy Bebop wasn't the first anime I watched, but it was one of the first ones that everyone talked about that I could see *why*. They manage to have a "diverse" cast without it being globalhomo selling point. Ed's sex isn't really talked about except twice. Why? Because it's not important that she's a girl. What's important is that she's really fucking smart for a kid. I hate that they made Gren/Glen "nonbinary" because that guts out a HUGE portion of the story. It just strips out a fuck tonne of his character. I fucking hate Netflix for ruining this, and I hope that NOBODY, ever ends up watching this and not the OG anime. *slams mic* @coolboymew

@ThreeOneThreeChris I didn't end up seeing Akira until shockingly recently and I can see why it's also been on everyone's "hey kid, want some anime?" lists. It still fucking holds. Especially in 2020~2021, Akira had a shocking amount of real-life parallels that were uncomfortable for me to think about. @coolboymew

@SerfnUSA For Cowboy Bebop, actually yesYet to fully watch it, but the thing is that apparently in the Japanese version the VA changes for Spike changes to a goofy voice to serious and the dub didn't do thisI don't trust dub friends as they have the shittest of taste in what constitute a good dub usually. And get this, this is touted as the best anime dub ever and this is mostly because the Japanese dub fucked up. That's how low dubs are

@coolboymew @SerfnUSA yeah that's definitely a good move bc any dub lover will love every dub. And for cowboy bebop everyone says the actors had amazing performances but I think it's more just a perfect cast. Everyone sounds pretty close to their JP counterpart but the JP voice actors put a lot more emotion into it.
