i’m loud about abortion access because i used to be in the pro-life movement.when you’re on the inside they don’t hide their punitive attitudes. deep down, for them, a baby is a punishment you must accept for not keeping your legs closed. that’s why they don’t care about babies after they’re born. helping would lighten someone else’s punishment.they don’t care about life. they don't care if the lives they “save” suffer after birth. in fact they quietly want them to.

@maloki i don’t know that i was ever really in :P i tried to put some wording to that effect but it didn’t fit in the character length. i went to a conservative catholic all-girl’s high school that went HARD on the pro-life stuff. like, constant diaper drives for crisis pregnancy centers (fake abortion clinics), sent a huge amount of the school to the march for life yearly, had posters of fetuses in the theology classroom levels of into it. i never entirely bought it

@clacke @maloki yeah exactly. they advertise like an abortion clinic but when you get there they try to scare & guilt you as hard as you can so you don’t get an abortion. the one my school worked with also promised to help with the baby once it’s born… but that “help” usually translates to just giving you a box of diapers and calling it a day. absolutely nothing substantial. more here:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_pregnancy_center

@maloki but despite never personally agreeing, i was not only subsumed in that environment, i had to spit back what the teacher said about it for good grades. so i feel like i know the arguments pretty well. and when it comes down to it, yeah. they always found ways to brush off what’d happen to the kids when they’re born. and after a bunch of that from a bunch of people the only logical explanation is… it’s not actually something they care about.

@clacke @maloki they're truly fucked up. if someone in your life is looking for an abortion, they should be super careful about these places, because they advertise very deceptively and game SEO/advertise on search websites with abortion related keywords heavily. (i originally recommended the NARAL website, but i can’t find the page i was referring to, so maybe they don’t maintain a list of providers anymore :/ )

@clacke @maloki @xyzzy fair enough, you can take a position against abortion as being unethical. but giving misinformation to women in a difficult and vulnerable situation is also unethical. you can’t just lie about medical procedures because you don’t like them.
