@grace_hawthorn @kathleenbee just been chatting with women in my academic field about what to wear to present at a forthcoming conference (options: dress or trousers? jacket or cardi? with clerical collar, or without? ) agonising over what will enhance/detract from our credibility... but men can wear *this* and still get taken seriously... ffs 🙄

@Ruth_H @kathleenbee TOTALLY. The HOURS we spend deciding what to wear so it's neutral enough not to be discussed and our words are still heard, and not so neutral that we vanish into the wallpaper and no-one hears us because we're invisible. FFS indeed.

If a young woman kindergarten teacher wore the kinds of outfits to work that are considered empowering and "go girl" on male drag queens at drag queen story hour the parents would be LINING UP at the principal's office to complain. it's the same shit on display here.
