[SERIOUS PLS READ] I understand that the point of federation is precisely to avoid making accounts on multiple instances. The problem is that instances are not 100% connected to each other so you're bound to miss out on posts that fall outside your POV of TWKN from the instance you're on. The question is: how do you make sure you experience as much of TWKN as possible? Maybe with a minimum number of strategic accounts in different instances which, combined, offer the most complete picture of the fediverse? And, subsequently: is there a way to visualize, perhaps graphically, which instances are connected to which?

In short, not only I don't wanna leave SPC (my fediverse alma mater since before this account existed) but also I don't want to keep an unnecessary number of accounts to keep track of subcommunities hanging around in particular instances, e.g. the folks at poast. But how can I even know I'm getting everything?

@wwwSome older servers block us because of some bullshit but the servers we actually block or mute are listed (mechanically, generated by reading our servers nodinfo file) on the about page.So while some people might not see your posts if they block us, we have a very big view out, as instances blocking us does not stop us from seeing them unless they do something drastic like authenticated fetches (uncommon)Before fediverse.network shutdown the numbers suggested we were among one of the highest federated servers with a big number of peers compared to others. However when new instances come into existence we still need to discover them the normal way

@dielan @www This but to be honest, instances come and go quite frequently so I wouldn't worry about trying to remain connected to everyone. But creating your own instance is probably your best bet if you care about reach. If you want the mastodon crowd then I would suggest making it a mastodon instance as quite a few of them have a bias upon seeing a pleroma instance and they will instance block you. It's worth at least having a backup account on another instance in case your main one goes down too.

@www I have accounts at Mastodon.online (as a substitute for the center hub of Fediverse, because I missed the boat at Mastodon.social), and accounts in strategic places that are blocked or otherwise restricted by Gargon: Pawoo (Pixiv), Poast, and even GAB (the latter is not currently federating). I would have an account at SPC if I managed to hit the registration window. This is pretty much enough to keep the finger on the pulse. I'm not tracking super weird and neurotic islands like QV, Spinster, etc. If they are blocked, I don't care.

@www 'how do you visualize'https://index.community/I've asked the other question, 'what subset of nodes do you need accounts on to see everything'. I would suggest that you get there by taking this list http://qhtn4w2q36dojls2.onion/doc/FediSus.html and starting at the top, and going down until you hit a node you can't communicate with, repeat.
