The Late Night Linux gents (@JoeRess @8none1 @felimwhiteley & @degville) have published their thoughts on #fosstodon (and Mastodon in general). I personally thought a lot of what they said was fair. I particularly liked Joe’s point around the fact there’s no algorithm at work here. We’re not trying to keep people online.I also liked the G+ analogy; again, I agree. @kev I thought most of what they said was fair. I didn't sense a lot of interest from any of them, and I think @JoeRess is the only one that posted after the first or second day. @kev I was very disappointed with the feedback from LNL.They didn't engage with the community and in fact one of them said 'don't expect much from them'!Then they moan it's not like Twitter etal! WTF?Algorithms to keep people engaged? @kev I agree that Fosstodon is not Twitter and that's a feature, not a bug. Like Felim mentioned, Fosstodon is like an IRC channel for the FOSS stuff. But there are other instances with other topics and interests, which anyone in the Fediverse can follow just using the same account. I'm sure there are accounts that post cat pictures and one can follow those, if interested. @JoeRess @8none1 @felimwhiteley @degville

Just listened to it. I thought it was pretty much all fair too. They explicitly were giving their *first* impressions. They said it many times. First impressions are important. It's often what keeps people on the platform or doesn't. None of their observations were surprising to me. Some of it, like initial content discovery for new users, we the fediverse need to improve. Others, like not doing algorithmic addiction behaviors thus not keeping people drawn into the platform, we can't and shouldn't or should do in a way which is more like sugar instead of crack cocaine compared to Facebook and Twitter.

@kev I'm not an avid participant, but I love the G+ analogy (and fosstodon). Was just having a conversation last week and recommended this place when G+ tech groups were being mourned.

@mpa000 I loved G+ and was very sad to see its demise. That’s actually where @mike and I met, like maybe 10 years ago? We were both on the beta program IIRC.
