Mark my words, the arguments I’ve seen in the last 24 hours that are in favor of giving up bodily autonomy - especially around “anything that will save lives is ok” - are the exact kind that will get expanded to places we don’t want it to go.Letting down the gate to our bodies is a gift to people who already hate women and want to control them. Be it in childbirth (where obstetric violence is rampant using the same argument) or reproductive choices (where forced birthing is gaining traction in some areas). There are better ways to achieve goals than removing this important and hard-fought right. Find another way.

@Froggo How many dead kids are the price you are willing to pay to fend off this imaginary attack on your rights?

Word for word the same argument used to defend obstetric violence against women for decades. The "dead babies" argument has forced women into unwanted medical interventions - many unnecessary and extremely damaging. Earlier you said economic coersion of women was also acceptable. Something domestic abusers also use. Be careful you don't become what you are fighting against. @Jennifer_Lee

@Gelatinousrube @Froggo The newest variant is hitting kids hard. The entire state of Texas is out of pediatric ICU beds. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/13/us/dallas-county-no-pediatric-icu-beds-left/index.html

@Froggo No one is asking anyone to give up their bodily autonomy, and the comparison to abortion is idiotic. You can’t transmit your abortion to another pregnant woman by standing nearby, now can you.And beyond that, no one is revoking anyone’s bodily autonomy anyway. If you want to knowingly make yourself a vector for a highly transmissible and deadly virus, you are completely and totally free to do that. You are just not free to violate the consent of other people by forcing yourself upon them, and putting them at risk as well. You can die all you like. In your own home, and the homes and businesses of likeminded risk-takers. You do not get to force other people to die for you.

LOL. Everyone assumes I'm against vaccines. I'm super pro-vaccine. 😂😂😂We're already within reach of the % required for herd immunity in Canada. Are we really so bad at outreach that we can't get a few more % without coercion and demanding access to people's bodies? Based on these responses: yes. We're willing to throw out hard-fought rights without any thought of how it can be used against us in the future. Mandates are lazy, totalitarian, and violate the bodily autonomy / consent of the individual. And honestly, I think it's just an opportunity for people to jump in and be abusive because it's "justified". Spoiler: advocating for mandatory medical interventions doesn't make you a good guy. If you can't get those last % without compelling access to bodies, the problem is on you for piss poor health outreach. You're part of the problem - worse, you're creating new ones you can't even see yet. Lazy policies today will cost us in the future. It does every time. And mark my words, it will be women who pay the price. @Lilitu

@Jennifer_Lee @Gelatinousrube @Froggo OMG. I just fucking hate it when children suffer like this...those babies. Death of children really takes a toll on medical personal, too. How much more can they take?

@Gelatinousrube @Froggo All those kids are going to have developmental problems. This is devastating. I'm glad they aren't having to turn patients away, at least for the moment. 😥

@Froggo The resemblance of this situation to the TERF-TRA divide is striking. We, those who express any doubt about the forced mass vaccination regardless of what our reasons are, or our own vaccination status, think that the other side is naive, or misjudged, or misinformed, whereas the other side believes that we are evil.@Lilitu

@sansar @Linnas @Froggo Yup. It really is pretty comparable. One side thinks they’re entitled to force other people to sacrifice themselves, and the other side thinks rights come with responsibilities and consent matters.“BUT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO VIOLATE WHOEVER’S SPACE AND BOUNDARIES I WANT!”Where have I heard that before?

@Lilitu By this argument you had better never go near another human being ever again because there are various endemic contagious respiratory viruses which we don't have vaccines for and they get passed around every year. The majority of people in the UK do not get a seasonal shot for pneumonia or flu even though these shots exist. These are killers for elderly and vulnerable people and always have been but the vaccines are given to the *vulnerable person* themselves (and offered out to a few other groups - healthcare workers and selected younger age groups). It would be outrageous to accuse everybody else of murdering the people who do still die of flu and pneumonia yet this is the new narrative for Covid. Hands, face, space, has been a very sensible mantra here in the UK for people going about their business given that we are facing a new, additional health risk, and I'm in favour of the vaccine rollout, but people are losing their heads now and throwing the ethical baby out with the medical bathwater over this mandatory business. It would be very understandable if we were talking about ebola but this is over a condition in the UK which our Office for National Statistics itself reports as killing people on average at the exact same age as the average person dies full stop. We have not made this jab mandatory (we have no other mandatory jabs either) and we have very decent uptake anyway. @Froggo

@Spring @Froggo Why? Presumably everyone there is consenting to the same thing I am. We have collectively majority-agreed on our risk tolerance, that’s why we’re in the same place, and that’s why our majority-ruled society has agreed we can be in that place, in the conditions we are.If I don’t like the current majority-agreed risk tolerance (which at the moment, I don’t), I’m free to stay the fuck out of the bars. I don’t like it, but that’s my decision to make. I don’t get to tell everyone else what to do in their space. See how this works? Rights with responsibility? For the billionth time: no one is “making” anyone get vaccinated. That is total bullshit that simply isn’t happening. They’re just saying if you don’t, that we don’t consent to you coming in and killing the vulnerable. We’re allowed to withdraw consent. You’re allowed to refuse our terms. But you have to deal with the consequences of your choices, which is that we might not want you around us. You do not own everything and you don’t get to ignore everyone’s consent. Rights with responsibility. It’s amazing how all ability to comprehend consent and social contract, supposedly a lynchpin of radfem and GC, suddenly goes out the window when it’s about your personal bugbear. Also, just so it does not go unsaid: at this point, comparing COVID, and especially Delta, to the flu is straight-up disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself. COVID is worse than any flu we’ve ever had in known history, 1918 included, and Delta is crippling and killing even children, who are currently unable to be vaccinated. Our pediatric units are full. Stop.

@Lilitu @Spring @Froggo This so many times over. Don't worry they'll get back to you in a minute with some trivial point just to make themselves feel better.
