@PINE64 > I’m sure some of you lunatics will also use it for terminal work and other such applications – godspeed and have fun with it, you’ve got our blessing. Haha yeah absolutely, an e-ink screen seems great for terminal work and reducing eye-strain because you do not get either too much light in your face or not enough.

@PINE64 is 8gb possible on the rk3566? it'd be a more practical primary device. i do pretty well on my 4gb laptop but largely because the SATA SSD is quite good at swap.

@XxAlexXx In the #PineNote? It uses the Rockchip RK3566, which isn't open source really, but far more documentation is publically available than for most SoCs.It runs Linux, in whatever flavor you want.

@Blort @kde [RANT sorry]@PINE64 is happy to announce another unfinished and incomplete device on which you can install multiple half-assed distro to please everyone - or an excuse to not do the integration - but hey, you can open a terminal to SSH. Is there anyone who can phone with their pinephone?OC, no video of the note in action but hey, we have magnetic cover. And wtf is this webpage? No structure, mixed news...Don't be too excited to announce stuff when having nothing.

@Blort @kde @PINE64 I mean, OK it is a prototype but we are not even in this situation as you don't have the main and most important part: the panel. The SoC at this stage is not a prototype but a proven platform.Who can spend 400$ on a non-existing proto ?And damn, I read "Libreoffice" in the news while this one is barely usable on traditional 2012 QuadCore computer. Same mess than w/ phone: You can install Gnome which is unusable but hey, you can install it!

@PINE64 @hicks @Blort @kde A dedicated page that lists the specs, shows some screenshots, and has some videos actually showing it being used *would* be quite nice, though. Hard to justify $400 if there's nothing that actually shows off how responsive it actually is =)

@TheRealPomax @PINE64 @Blort There is a reason why e-ink devices are expensive: A 10'' screen alone costs $200 dollars. https://www.waveshare.com/10.3inch-e-paper-d.htmMany e-readers are sold at a loss because the money is made on the books.

@jawsh I don't mind the "beta" label at all. I just expected a little bit more than OpenMoko effect. :)I don't like the Anthony Young's conclusion:"for linux enthusiast or just people who want to play with something"We need a reliable smartphone, at least like in 2011-2012 but really open source. I don't see the interest of just playing or SSHing.Anyway, I have no clue on manufacturing such phone but I would love to learn that from Pine team, the value is there. @PINE64 @kde @Blort

@hicks @PINE64 @kde @Blort I'd say it's got OpenMoko beaten. The enthusiasts and devs are the ones helping to make it a viable smartphone option. I have been using it as my main phone for a few months now and haven't ssh'd at all. Most of the main phone functions are working.

@Prof_Trixie so far it has been fantastic! I mean, there are quite a few bumps along the way, but overall I think this phone has huge potential. I am not a heavy consumer of "apps", so I don't need a whole lot. but the wifi and 4G work great on Tmobile and texting works great and #XMPP is integrated into the texting app.The processor is a little weak though. Apps will need to be updated regularly until that smooths out. Web browsers are the worst offender, though Surf from suckless works.
