devs of bloated software should have to make a pilgrimage to bangladesh and inhale the fumes of the e-waste burn pits to understand the carbon footprint of their bloaty software causing people to buy new computers.

@Seirdy while i understand the sentiment, devs don't generally decide how they build software. what you described is just software under capitalism.

@wetsocks @foreverxml @newt Flutter isn't lightweight. It's usually less bad than Electron. Electron is such a low bar that being compared to it should be a massive red flag.Rather than "one codebase == every platform" I prefer having core libraries that do most of the backend work to reduce the scope of the frontends, and to make the software less complex by curtailing feature creep. That makes it easier for other devs to make new frontends so they can use native toolkits instead.

@Seirdy Remember Moore's law? Programmers knew they could, that's why, about at the time when Javascript was invented, they completely stopped asking whether they should.

@thor @Seirdy maybe you forgot to make extern char **environ; available in stdlib.h? I guess you need -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE or whatnot. Check your standard library’s manual for further details.
