If you had substantial extra money sitting around, what would you do with it?If the thing you pick is meeting some unmet need (ex. housing, medical care, etc.), what would you do with it if you still had plenty after your needs were met?

@urusan Assuming that "dumping it into index funds" is not a valid answer because it's boring, I'd probably start by buying my parents a giant Gondola plushie. And my brother. And some other friends too. For myself I'd get a really nice doll, and get some local clothier to make her some nice clothes.

@urusan Possibly some combination of:1. Save it.2. Buy a new digital piano3. ERADICATE OUR ANCIENT ENEMIES. DEATH TO MALARIA. DRIVE IT INTO THE NIGHTMARES OF THE PAST. MAKE IT SOMETHING THAT SEEMS FUNNY AND A BIT IMPOSSIBLE LIKE THE BLACK DEATH.

@urusan 4. Also probably legal and political advocacy against the worst excesses of factory farming and maybe trying to invest in promising TCM if we're talking about serious amounts of money because I don't want us to be anyone else's ancient enemy, either, cone to that.

@urusan In the long term, yes. Playing child protective services against an abusive mother nature and rescuing ourselves and all other complex life on this planet from the worst outcomes of evolution seems so obviously correct to me that I have difficulty not imagining it happening if we get our acts together.(Though I hadn't really considered it for short-term-funnel-excess-money-into.)

@urusan Also I really like that he's one of the few people writing in a transnatural space that seems to focus on artistically discovering new emotions, perceptions, and the like.

@urusan I made it up, considering that if we run into aliens they'll probably be into the analogous thing. Plus evolutionary algorithms would be recapitulating the same problems of selection pressure we have.

@Azure @urusan do you think we will live in our lifetime to have the opportunity of tcm or trans-species divergence described here and in your video misery was?

@Agris It's not mine.I think tissue culture meat is pretty near on the horizon, driven as much by environmental concerns over conversion ratio as concerns over suffering.Subspecies divergence I can't say. It depends entirely on people getting their act together and a bit on longevity research, since 'our lifetimes' is a quantity that might either expand or contract radically for people living now.@urusan

@Azure @Agris I would also add that when it comes to what constitutes "our lifetimes" it matters quite a bit how old one is right now, as well as the usual issue of luck playing a huge role. We're on the cusp of eradicating cancer and infectious disease, followed most likely by most other lethal maladies, but it'll still take a few decades to fully play out.
