turns out I have enough aeroflot bonus points to upgrade to buisness class. now the thing is, for whatever reason if you want to upgrade for bonus points instead of money, you have to call them. so now I am debating whether I want to spend 2 hours of my life calling them or 8 hours of my life flying economy instead of buisness :cirnoThink:

@rin definitely spend the two hours, I once (two times actually) had to spend twelve hours in economy and it was hell

okay, I decided to call them. 10 minutes of wait later got connected to the operator. she told me that I can't upgrade the class on the outbound flight, but can do it on the inbound one. I said okay, let's update the inbound one. so she told me the birth date on my profile is incorrect, which I, for the record, never inputed myself and it's not even visible in the web interface. she told be she would check back with a specialist and get back to me. 10 more minutes later she returned and said that the only way to change the birth date would be to go to the aeroflot's office or submit a ticket on the website. but the processing times for a ticket are 2 weeks so I might not have the birth date changed by the time I need to fly back. just what the fuck, I am buying tickets with layover in novosibirsk next time just so I don't have to fly aeroflot

@piggo I have no idea. for some reason the birth date did not matter for the past 6 years I've accumulated miles, but when I want to spend them, it suddenly exists

turns out my birth date in the bonus programme is off by one day. I wonder what will happen if I call them again and tell them that birth date :thinkhappy:

on the other thought, maybe not. I didn't use the service before so I have no idea if they are actually going to put that date somewhere. I assume not since they didn't mind it all the times I've flown before, but being stuck in vladivostok is no fun

@shymess yeah same. which is incredibly funny since pobeda is supposedly a lowcost subsidiary of aeroflot

@rin @piggo maybe they need to be sure that you were born, and that you are not an eternal fae that was around when humanity wasn't even a thing

@rin you're actually right. it's a stock company (hence DB AG) but the government HODLs every single stock. it's still run like a profit oriented corporation making it shitty for everyone.

@fell interesting, could you tell me more about it? from what I heard db manages to somehow receive lots of money in government subsidies and still be expensive and unreliable. is it like that? if so, why? are there any competitors?

@rin Alright, here's my view: They are unrealiable, but it wouldn't be that bad if they wouldn't be so expensive, especially locally. A 30 minute trip from where I live to the city is like 10€ one way. A ticket for a whole month is cheaper, but still 100-150€ and limited to a certain area. If you cross that imaginary border, you need an additional tickets. They are almost never on time during peak hours, sometimes cancelled entirely. There are competitors, but ...

@rin ...they all share the same tracks and they are equally affected. Don't get me wrong. The train system works, it gets you there eventually, but it's so pricey and annoying and complex that you would take any alternative available.I have a car. The trains are just so useless to me except when I'm drunk. When I was in Sydney, I took a 2 hour trip to the mountains for 4€ and the the trains there were at most 5 minutes late. Why? Because their train system is run and funded by the government.
