@alcinnz This article feels... strange.Kinda makes the argument that they want all the reward with no work 🤔

@alcinnz > I want all the power of coding without any of the coding. With great power comes great tool complexity (although one can have an immensely complex tool that is not powerful at all). 🤷♀️

@rysiek In other words: if you want to do complex things, you have to learn complex tools.Or even: if you want to swim, or ride a bike, or drive a car, you have to spend some time to learn (how to swim, ride a bike, drive a car). The author of the original article does not seem willing to learn bash. So he won't be able to use it. End of story. You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.@alcinnz

@rysiek I will add that this is a VERY polite and diplomatic version of my first reaction. On the other hand, it's people like this - those who are unwilling to put in the time and the effort to learn complex tools - that keep me in business. Because I think I (superficially) know bash (or ksh, ash, dash, etc). And on the other other hand, these are also the same kind of people who will look down on others for not being as "educated" as themselves... once they have learned bash.@alcinnz

@ParadeGrotesque @rysiek @alcinnz they can create a file manager to do everything they want. It'll just look like a cockpit and it'll be way harder to learn than bash.I tried apps that batch files and they are always too much work to use and the skills don't translate anything else.

@h3artbl33d @ParadeGrotesque @alcinnz to be fair, after the dressdown by you people, the author's argument is but a shell of itself! :blobcatfingerguns: Seriously though, there are many ways shells can be improved. Complaining without suggesting specific improvements is just not helpful.

@rysiekI agree that shells can and should be improved. There is even an argument to be made that bash itself has become too big and byzantine for its own good (compare and contrast with fish, oilshell or even OpenBSD ksh for instance). But saying "bash is hard, I don't want to learn it" is not suggesting improvements or even providing valid criticism - it's whining IMHO. @h3artbl33d @alcinnz
