i personally feel there should be one Ireland, but that North Ireland should not be worse off for it. that the people in North Ireland who feel British should be allowed to call themselves British, and the people who feel Irish should be allowed to call themselves that. of course, this is an impossible wish. a region can't belong to two countries. or perhaps it could, somehow...

@thor I think it make more sense, administratively, for there to be a unified Ireland (or an Independent Northern Ireland) - but I guess that's a matter for the people of Northern Ireland to decide for themselves. As I understand it; a united Ireland has gained popularity as an idea since the UK left the EU.

@mark everyone knows what it means to be Irish. but i guess enough English people have migrated there to make the situation more complex, much as in Catalonia, where enough Spanish people have migrated there to make *that* situation more complex.

@thor Well... there's the thorny issue of Protestant tribalism vs. Catholic tribalism as well, of course. :/

@mark it's funny how Christians and Muslims live more peacefully among each other here in Norway than the Protestants and Catholics do in Ireland.
