Something went horribly wrong with an Ubuntu update and my system wouldn’t boot. Rescue boot revealed the fs was good but nothing else worked. So I attempted to reinstall Ubuntu without formatting. That didn’t work.So I said screw it, might as well try another OS and popped in PopOS. Turns out it has a Refresh Install feature which doesn’t blow away /home and that worked like a charm.

@rcode3 I heard there was an issue with the shim bootloader: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ubuntu-bug-breaks-efi-on-21-04-update-with-older-machinesNot sure if that's been fixed just yet
