@RealJamesWoods: "I brought my Mom to the Normandy Cemetery. She couldn’t stop crying. To look out across the manicured fields at the white monuments with Omaha Beach below is so moving, it’s impossible to describe. I remember her whispering, 'All those young boys dying so far from home.' #DDay77 [images]#WWII #DDay #Normandy https://nitter.domain.glass/RealJamesWoods/status/1401457041739182086

       >@CommonS07025819 'It is located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach, the site of the former temporary battlefield cemetery of Saint Laurent, contains the remains of 9,388 American military dead, most of whom were killed during the invasion of Normandy & ensuing military operations in World War II. @darulharb Near us on the outskirts of Cambridge is the Madingly American Cemetery, it is such a tranquil place, it has beautiful vistas of the flat fenland country, and manicured lawns, and white crosses. I always feel the same, all those poor lads!. Often there are American families there visiting their loved one and I always feel so grateful that we could at least provide somewhere so lovely, to show our acknowledgement, our appreciation, of the dept that can never really be repaid.

@darulharb I've seen many War Cemeteries. The one which impressed me the most was down the road from that one. Sullen Normandy spring weather,, German Army used a dark red stone for markers, unlike the pristine white in the American ones. Hot banking two to a plot. Way too many simply read "Zwei Deutscher Soldat " Many dates were a little older than I was (High School), many shared my Dad's birth year Sobering.

@darulharb Probably. It was forty years ago(1).Not as sobering as Paul's experience walking into the British War cemetery outside El-Alemain, and seeing his name on a gravestone.(1) the second "Oh God I'm old" marker is when you say "This happened about 40 years ago..." and realize it was forty years ago.
