You're not a bad person for liking things that are proprietary. You are not immoral for enjoying things that were made behind closed doors. You are not less of a person for having the desire for XYZ product from a premium company, regardless of whether they contribute to open source or not.

Follow up: You don't need to feel guilty for choosing proprietary software. If you prefer to use Spotify over local music because it better fits your listening style, go for it! Should you look for more secure and privacy-respecting alternatives? Sure. But you don't need to develop a cognitive dissonance when it comes to what your preferences for software are. Do what you're comfortable with, keep an open mind, and try things whenever you feel like something new.

@brandon I do use Bandcamp, just as you suggested 😋 I have found digital downloads on Tidal (download, not streaming) for almost every artist not on Bandcamp.Discovery on Tidal streaming is probably not as good as Spotify.My real point is that no one cares that Spotify is closed source; they care that Spotify doesn't pay.Use it all you want; just realize that you are paying for the service, not the art.If you want the art to exist, you better find a way to pay for it.

But if we all just accepted the targeted, brightly shining temptations of proprietary big tech and it's associates, where would be? Heading towards complete submission, towards an Orwellian nightmare where #bigbrother knows #everything. Hurtling head first towards the coming #singularity with our shackles already on.
