@kevI understand if you're talking about the logo aspect of it, but penguins are cute man 😄Later, I realized the intention behind making a penguin as the logo after I started watching "Planet Earth". Penguins have a really strong sense of community than you may think.

@kev I couldn't agree more. Tux is a terrible mascott, it takes all the seriousness out of Linux. Linux needs a flat icon; maybe something like KDE's or Ubuntu's logo.

@cyrus @kev Tux is as serious as the Apple logo and Windows XP logo were back in the day. Who cares about these minimalistic soul-stripping trends of design today. Yeah there are still some problems, but going all out flat is not the way to go either imo

@kev Fun fact, I think so as well. It has reached its age and really though, make it a bit more modern and minimalist. A fat tux is really not a great logo. Before changing logo, ask the community and then change it. Its still stuck in the old times and need a revamp. Sorry tux, but your “behind the times” so they say. I would think of a way to make it minimalist but stil recognisable. Tux needs a rest. He is carrying the cuteness of Linux for a long time

@kev Given my favorite animal since childhood is a penguin, Tux was one of the things that initially attracted me to Linux. However, I do see the point that if you are looking for an enterprise solution, something with a cartoon penguin as a logo doesn't evoke the right emotions.

Like I said in the post, I put off installing Linux for the longest time purely because of Tux.I thought it was a joke to be honest.I remember seeing pictures of Tux on the front of magazines (along with a free floppy disk) and always thought it was a joke.

@kev I think it's fine. We're conditioned to associate the sterile corporate aesthetic with "seriousness", but it really doesn't have to be this way. Linux and free software are in many ways antithetical do that stance. Things can be serious but warm and welcoming at the same time.

@kev What would you expect from a Logo/Mascot you would like?I think it is kind of playfully different from what corporate logos where at the time of its inception. It might seem childish, but I think that was intentional at a time when Linux was not about big business, but about free software.

@kev I wouldn't go as far to say I hate him but I completely agree. He looks like something that should be on a cereal box, not as a logo of a modern OS. The Windows and Mac logos have evolved so much over time, but not Linux. Should have something more flat designed, looks more serious and actually means business like the distro logos.
