@Xalef @mulmeyun The Copyright on Fonts is at least questionable. There definitely is no Copyright on letters since they are meant to be similar to each other and therefore disqualify as original work per definition. If a computable set of rules for depicting letters is therefore copyrightable is a question a cant answer but at least the font in therms of what you see isn’t. (May be different on Fonts like Windings)

@cybercow@cdrom.tokyo @Xalef@shitposter.club fonts are absolutely copyrightable as calligraphy is an art, when it comes to the code for displaying them it can be licensed like any otherfonts like gnu-fonts are free software, but there are many licenses, some are "open source", others straight up proprietaryi imagine comic sans is public domain, which technically isn't copyleft

@mulmeyun @Xalef Ok you are right I was missleaded by a judge negotiating copiryght for a specific font. But not every font is. It is ,at least in German copyrightlaw, dependant on the difference to existing fonts and the artistic impression but not by measures like readability of the font. So since comig sans seams quite unique it could be that it is actually copyrighted.

@cybercow@cdrom.tokyo @Xalef@shitposter.club ah i dunno the specifics of iti imagine that if you use arial or times new roman or something like that you could argue that the graphics are not copyrightable, but the fonts can't be distributed on linux so i assume there's legal trouble with thatlaw is dumb and gay specially copyright lawanyways here's what wikipedia says about it, apparently the fonts can't be equal and can only look similar
