https://obsidian.md/ #obsidian is definitely not my kind of software, but I definitely like their philosophy"In our age when cloud services can shut down, get bought, or change privacy policy any day, the last thing you want is proprietary formats and data lock-in.With Obsidian, your data sits in a local folder. Never leave your life's work held hostage in the cloud again." (1/2)

@metalune I think Quanta (https://quanta.wiki) may be a similar tool. I'm the founder/developer.In Quanta everything is always hierarchical and markdown. Every node can contain other sub-nodes.

@WClayFerguson well, that certainly is an interesting project, but as I said, obsidian isn't the kind of software I would use, not because of the license, simply because I don't need it.

@metalune I've had something like Quanta under development ever since XML was first invented (i.e. for decades).I always thought the world needed "Hierarchical Text Editors" and so I've always had one of my own, for all my own notes, because other than mine they basically didn't (and still don't) really exist. Quanta just happens to be the latest incarnation.

@metalune it's so refreshing to finally see a company making a product that from the start does *not* silo your data, making it hard to leave at some point. For that and the fact there's first class support for linux I'd use it if I wanted a gui app for note keeping.

@fedops exactly, and even if the company internally wouldn't do it, they do spread the word about the issues with cloud-based work.
