Sometimes I regret buying this Chromebook, even though it's really nice to use. The Google lock-in is strong with it for sure. So much so that it discourages me from deGoogling my other devices much.

@ataraxia937 Could potentially flash Linux on it, no? :D Though I have to say I'm curious about the lock-in there. What are the biggest gripes?

@brandon Well, as long as you run ChromeOS, you're stuck with Chrome. And the OS has integrations with other Google products such as Drive. And the Play Store is present, with Android integration.Basically, if you don't want to use Google stuff, you might as well turn this computer off.

@ataraxia937 I guess these things just seem obvious to me 🤔 Did you get suckered into getting one of these or was it given?

@brandon I bought it when I was in a more favorable mood towards Google. But with me, opinions are often fluid. Sometimes I'm happy with this computer, and sometimes I'm in doubt.

@ataraxia937 No that's fair. And I think that's likely what they count on when marketing to folks. Unfortunately it gets people into this cognitive dissonance that's hard to shake :/ I'd find a way to wipe that and stick Linux on it instead. At least you won't have wasted the money and you can replicate the experience by shoehorning Chromium OS back on there (maybe :P )

@brandon Or, I could try to resell it. It's an Acer Spin 713 and I'd expect it to be decently in demand.

@ataraxia937 That's a fair point. Laptops are going far above their actual value these days
