I am not too sure where the cool kids are hanging out these days so I got myself one of those matrix thingies just in case that is where they are.@whistlewright:matrix.org I believe is the address. I may go ahead and get an XMPP address too. I am more familiar with XMPP but not sure if anyone uses it anymore.XMPP might be better. I am not sure if I have ever used Matrix on #Emacs.

@whistlewright I'm not sure how "cool" I am considering I'm so deep into FOSS that I'm using Haiku as my everyday OS, but I personally prefer forums. Their topic oriented nature meshes with my brain a lot better than most social media for discussion -- I tend to treat stuff like this more as an online journal.

@whistlewright I'm not sure how "cool" I am considering I'm so deep into FOSS that I'm using Haiku as my everyday OS, but as a quasi-kid (my age still begins with the number one) I personally prefer forums. Their topic oriented nature meshes with my brain a lot better than most social media for discussion -- I tend to treat stuff like this more as an online journal.

@Rokken I have never been one of the cool kids. There is nothing wrong with forums. Most of the people that I follow here on Mastodon I have been following for a bunch of years. We aren't really activists. Yeah sure, we do use FOSS and think about security blahblahblah but mostly we just hang out and are friends and friendly. I am too old and tired for much more than that. Just hanging out needs it's place online too.

@whistlewright Fair enough, it's just a matter of preference and what you're doing. All of my friends have direct contact with me, so if I just want to chat and catch up, I don't even need social media.
