       Here's a threat to open source I don't hear a lot of people talking about: General computing devices are slowly drifting into irrelevance. Notice how more and more vendors are saying "IOS and Android only and to hell with the rest of you?" - This isn't an accident.

       @feoh to their credit, people like cory doctorow have been beating this drum anywhere anyone would listen for years and years, and i think it's something people i know in the scene are generally pretty aware of (though that may be skewed by how many hardware folks i hang with).i also think it's something a lot of people aren't working on directly just because, like, how?  where do you even start? it feels like _such_ a massive, overdetermined, and insurmountable problem.

       @brennen The answer to "How do I even start?" got a LOT easier recently. Pitch in and contribute to Plasma Mobile, Phosh, Ubuntu Touch, etc! Those are all active projects working to make an open source mobile handset a reality.
