i think i may go for Mikrotik devices if i set up a network for another building. as i understand it, Mikrotik can act as a controller for a large area WiFi network with a single SSID and seamless handover between APs. i can't really do that with Linksys LAPAC APs. i'm pretty sure any WiFi router could do it if there was software support. all you have to do is have one AP stop responding to a client and let another take over.

@thor The nice thing with Mikrotik is that you can orcestrate your APs (single SSID) with a Mikrotik switch/router with jucier hardware. I would have used such a setup at home if it wasn't for the fact that I got a hold of 5 used Aruba APs for free – which are also great for this use case.

@rsolva so Aruba is another option. i want to know all the brands that do this. not all of them will be available here. i'm trying to avoid Ubiquiti.

@thor Aruba is generally more expensive and enterprise-oriented, I think. You get the same (maybe even more?) features with Mikrotik for a much nicer price. If I had not gotten these 3+ year old Aruba APs for free, I would have gone with Mikrotik. Ubiquiti is out of the question :)

@rsolva since this would be a service i would typically render for people who own a considerable amount of real estate, it's an option i'm willing to consider. i'm just gathering data.

@rsolva i've largely been basing myself on ZyXEL equipment for the stuff that doesn't pertain to routing and wifi so far.
