While there are newer and better ways like Matrix, Rocketchat, I don't understand why most foss projects still communicate with irc on freenode.

@eayavas Well. I still thankful for technologies that still use text, especially because networks are evolving to media and fancy stuffs, there are less text content on internet. That's the main reason I am glad people still use IRC. Other reasons could be from this post:https://blog.apnic.net/2020/09/21/why-irc-is-still-good-in-current_year/

@jrballesteros05 How does the Matrix platform relate to IRC? Many IRC servers seem to be integrated with the matrix server.

@eayavas Actually Matrix is a protocol and they aim to "Bridge" other communication apps and the user just have to download one client. I Bridged Telegram and IRC into Matrix. I guess with IRC works better because the protocol is open source too.

@jrballesteros05 I just shared the password of my freenode IRC record in a public group. I blur the password, but I did the initial version and I didn't notice it for 5 minutes. I changed it immediately when I realized it, but if someone entered it, can they change it again using their active session after I changed it? Of course, I don't know if my record will work in case of theft, but it is also linked to my e-mail.

@eayavas I don't know. I know the authentication on Freenode is a bit weird. I guess you shouldn't have any problem.
