1.Tonight, Mr. Wzi and I went to a networking event in our very West Texas city for the first time since February 2020. Our wonderful Gov. Abbott opened our city up to 100% capacity as of yesterday. The County Judge (more like a C.O.O. of the county than an actual judge) tried to stop it, so many businesses are not opening up and are continuing the mask mandates. I am proud to report that while about 15% of people wore the face diaper, no one else did. The place was full and we ALL SHOOK HANDS.

2. Interestingly enough, while we all shook hands, we did not touch our faces until we used the (liberally provided) hand sanitizers all over the place, happily took our temps in the "self service" thermometers in the front of the restaurant, and washed our hands whenever necessary. It was NORMAL but better, because not touching our faces is a good new normal, esp in flu season, and FINALLY people are washing their hands the way we were taught as children. G-d Bless Texas.

3. I made a bunch of new friends, too. This is a blue blue blue city, yet many of the people I spoke with are on the same page, as politically, people are waking up. Several of us women are going to go shooting together. We are all buying guns and ammo. Most of the people I spoke with hate Fauxi, believe we were spammed in the plannedemic, and now know we need to fight back. There were some idiots excited about the $1400 pay-out, but many were not fooled. I am more hopeful than ever.

4. P.S: It was not necessary to touch our faces after we shook hands, because-GASP- we weren't wearing that stupid non-fitting unnecessary face diaper that makes us touch our faces! Now, there WERE some people that did touch their mouths, but they are stupid, and I dismissed them as such. They have always been dumb, since I have known them, and will not miss them if they never show up again. I know. Cruel, but such is Darwinism.

@TerriC One of my new friends talked about her good friend in Minnesota, which apparently had draconian shut-down rules. All restaurants/bars where this person lived were shut down..... so they started SPEAKEASIES like in '20's prohibition. Restaurants invited special people, who invited other special people. The word, and the password, were spread, and the restaurants operated on the sly. I thought it was outstanding. People are people. Rebellion is rebellion, and still awesome.

@macoman4u1 It really is. The "media" had tried to convince us that "the handshake" is a thing of the past, but almost everyone eschewed the 'elbow shake' and put out their hands. It's because we all knew how to protect ourselves from infecting ourselves. It's the way it should have always been, but, truth is.... getting sick improves immunity. That's real science.

@wziminer @macoman4u1 I know I've said this before, but after chemo & being neutropenic, I learned real quick not to touch my face, since mucus membranes are how viruses enter your body. It's a hard habit to master, but I haven't been sick since 2015.

@wziminer I remember thinking how strange it was when President Trump stopped shaking hands. It was weird and I think he hated that. It was awkward. When the ME leaders came to sign the Peace Deal, no shaking hands, in public. But I guarantee you, my President shook ALL those men's hands in private. Medal recipients too. Shake hands in private, use hand sanitizer. NBD!

@Greenthumb1776 Yes, I still expect chains like Costco and grocery store chains to insist on the masks. This was a locally owned and operated bar/restaurant. One chain restaurant here IS open, because my friend's husband made reservations for 4 yesterday and asked about the 'rules.' The person on the phone said "We are opening to full capacity and we plan to pack the place. Masks are OPTIONAL. So it depends on where you go. My city is very blue, like all the larger cities in TX.

@RedRocker Exactly so. When this all started, I kept explaining to my family and friends that touching your face was the main cause of virus spread, so always wash your hands before doing it.. Every single one of them whined "but I ALWAYS touch my face and it's too hard to stop." They would rather wear a mask, which makes most people touch their face even more. smdh. @DMB1105 Sounds like fun, too. For the most part, except for a period of about 2 months, our salons were open, with restrictions. I really respect the people who were able to pull off the 'speakeasy' businesses. I would def have patronized them all. We tried to do our part when the restaurants were open for take-out by buying from small locally owned businesses at least twic/week.

@wziminer @macoman4u1 It blows my mind to see people outdoors in the Sunshine with noone else around wearing a mask, like the virus is mustard gas or something. Driving in their car with a mask & face shield, WTF? The feds did an excellent job of scaring the shit out of everybody. Enough people are going to stop wearing them here in TX now that the EO from the Gov has made it clear that the "unmasked" cannot be arrested or prosecuted. Last night was very encouraging. Almost everyone there didn't even carry one with them. Those that remained masked were few, and usually had a close friend or relative who had died, and were still fearful.
