@Ghosty It looks like you need to disable JavaScript. :D

@Ghosty What has disabling JavaScript tobfo with that? If your web browser doesn't support it in some simple way, an addon is essential. Browsing the web with JavaScript is as tedious and dangerous as putting square tires on a sports car.

@hund I don't have such a strong anti-standing against JS :)Although I understand the argument that JS is overused.

@Ghosty It's like with Flash. The idea was good and then people abused the shit out of it. Even if you don't dislike JavaScript and are okay with it excluding disabled people from using the web, we still have both the performance and the security issue to think of as well.

@hundFirst of all, JavaScript is nothing like Flash. But I'd like to shock you more: actually HTML is what overly misused and, consequently overused. Something that what intended to be a hypertext is being used like a declarative language for GUI. A poor one. That's why HTML/CSS is such a mess.We don't need HTML, the Internet is not a hypertext and never has been, this idea was dead from its birth. What we actually need is a @Ghosty - 1/2

sane universal GUI for web apps and a sane language to write them. As a language modern JavaScript is very good, I really love it, WebAssembly soon will give us an ability to write in a diversity of languages.Your "JavaScript is evil" is just a sort of technoluddism.@Ghosty @hund - 2/2

@VikingKong @Ghosty @hund Serious question: why does every techie seem to have this conceit that they are in the position to re-architect the whole internet from the ground (maybe not entirely, but anything higher level than TCP/IP seems to invoke nonstop kvetching) up and that their intuitions are "sane" while everybody else's aren't?I see very little "look at this cool thing I made" and a whole lot of post-hoc critique of things that were already made and are well-established as the norm

@NEETzsche. Is your point is that people shouldn't critique unless they write their own software / netstack solutions? This #mastodon instance we are using is evidence itself that people are taking action. #gemini is another example. There are tons of other examples. That said, I personally am happy to see people questioning and thinking critically about the software and protocols they use whether they are software authors or not. Too many people don't do this.

@lenzj I’m saying that your opinion holding weight needs justification. This isn’t some debate club a priori black box. If an accomplished person arrives at the conclusion that something is whack or flawed, then it means a lot more than someone who has accomplished nothing but good grades in their barely-completed computer science bachelor’s program.

@NEETzsche @lenzj uh? I don't need any evidence to tell wether or not I like something. I can say "hey I don't like how JS is used" based on my previous web browsing experience just fine
