Kinda crazy if you think about that a large part of our world runs on advertising.

@metalune For good or worse. I'm opposing agressive ads, but I have to admit, without them I probably wouldn't be able to do most things online. Pay for services is good and secure than paying with your data. Unless you have money to do so ^^

@metalune on- as well as offline. Even the old paper magazines of the previous century were largely financed by ads.

@fedops exactly, I wonder if there would be a way to avoid ads alltogether..

@metalune in terms of needing them at all: pay for the actual service what it costs plus margin to whoever provides it. That means things like FTA TV are a goner. In terms of consumption: do what Steve Mann proposed 10 years ago: http://cyborganthropology.com/Mediated_Reality 😀

@metalune Ads must die. Community made content for the win!

@person @metalune Let's be reasonable here. Without ads, we wouldn't have had free software. And the developers wouldn't want to develop free software. Do you want people to buy subscriptions for every software they use? Nobody would do that.

@XxAlexXx @person > Do you want people to buy subscriptions for every software they use?I guess, somewhat. at least make it so that if you already pay for software you can be sure that you're not monetized in any other way

@metalune @XxAlexXx @person "Without adds there wouldn't be free software" is not really true. Most of the Linux infrastructure is free, and virtually none of it is paid with adds.Lots of software is developed just for the fun of it, and especially Apple used to have a very healthy share-ware environment where you paid once for every major version of software.Major companies and app-stores have normalized monetizing users through adds and the sale of personal data.#money

@metalune @person This is why no one likes Adobe. If they become free with ads tomorrow, I would rush towards them and get their software without qurdtion. Software like gimp will be left in the dust
