@nagot @thorIn Germany it is in the middle, 37€, but in Berlin it seems better to start requesting 3 months before expiry.https://praxistipps.chip.de/personalausweis-verlaengern-dauer-und-kosten_100068https://mastodon.social/media/IlncA75-fmcsMgvmpQ0

@nagot @alm10965 i wonder how good the quality is. also, would it even work if you typed the ID number into a computer. everyone checks it against the database, so it would only work in places that don't have access to that, such as bars...

@thorAs for me very quality ID card, but I rarely use it, coz we have mobile app with ID Card, Driver license, International passport and others. Rarely organisations ask for plastic card (usually for scan). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ua.gov.diia.appUnfortunately it's in Ukrainian, but you can just check how it's look like.@alm10965

@nagot @alm10965 you can't get your national ID card like that though. i don't have a driver's license, so the app would be irrelevant to me.

@alm10965 @nagot national ID card is a pretty recent introduction. before that, there were only passports and driver's licenses. years ago, they used to put an ID on debit/credit cards too, which was what a lot of people would ID themselves with, but they quit doing that.

@thorLooks good. So you can use it without plastic card, right? I really like all is it convenient nowadays but it's little unpleasant to download government's apps on personal smartphone. However, app doesn't require any permissions.. So I really hope that it's not a spyware@alm10965

@thor @alm10965 @nagot I mean, all we have in America is a drivers license and a number that's assigned to us a birth, though the number is easy to forge anyways.

@alm10965 @nagot they were quite handy imho, but the banks would never update the photos on them, just issue new cards with the same old photo taken 20 years ago.

@Jessica @alm10965 @nagot the social security number, yes.we have a birth/person number. it follows a ddmmyy nnnnn format. the ddmmyy part is the birth number (basically your birthdate) and the nnnnn part is the person number, which is even for women, odd for men, and has a parity digit to prevent mistyping it.it's easy to *generate*, but anyone who handles these numbers and need to ID you will either have direct access to the government database that keeps them, or use one of the various electronic ID verification systems out there, such as BankID, a two-factor authentication system.

@nagot @alm10965 for a while I don't think they even had payment cards without the I'D on them. nowadays it's uncommon to have ones without the ID because that system's being phased out.

@Jessica @alm10965 @nagot the Norwegian number isn't an ID as such. not on its own. in fact, it isn't considered sensitive information, though people still treat it as such.

@Jessica @alm10965 @nagot i think a lot of databases probably just use it as a primary key, and if the government needs to track things. they mostly don't apart from taxes though. the government doesn't know what I do with my bank account, but of course if I'm applying for the lowest tier benefit, called social benefits, they do ask for bank statements to verify that you are in fact broke. police investigations also of course.

@thorPuhh, it's an interesting thread, but now I can't get sufficient attention for that. My Personalausweis have an NFC chip in, but in total the buerocracy is "standing on the brakes" so we have not so much useful use for it. Some Years ago I've bought an card reader, but there is no useful #AusweisApp on a #linux computer, same similar on my android phone. Maybe the police can easy check the identity. @Jessica @nagot
