Parler is back up, but all my old posts seem gong ... or maybe not restored yet. @icedquinn I recently remembered to add Minds to the list of places where I promote my blog. But yea, it does feel like a circle jerk on there.None of these platforms have a good discoverability feature; like the federated timeline. You can't just easily go and find random people you want to interact with; like a classic IRC chat room or old-skool Reddit.I think any new services that ranks posts is going to have fundamental problems and not truly be better in any meaningful way. The only good default timeline is reverse chronological, or most recent updated thread. It worked for message boards for decades.

@djsumdog minds was decently discoverable when they launched. they asked what topics you liked, i joined a bunch. they simply didn't have the numbers—it was mostly all trump shit and like 3 indie game devs.

@icedquinn @djsumdog I was on minds early, and they were getting some decent buzz, but then they banned corporate accounts of Google and iirc Facebook. They made it a big thing like "we're fighting back against the censors!" But I was like "I wanted no censorship, not your special brand of censorship, kthxbye!"

@anonymoose @icedquinn That that seems like it could be pretty childish. Honestly they could have let them say on and just weighted all their posts down to the bottom so they'd need 50x the engagement to get ranked.

@djsumdog @icedquinn Minds is variable at best. It has seemingly been a MAGA circlejerk at times, though this may have just been the aftermath of Parler, as it seems to have lightened up somewhat last I checked

@mathlover2 @djsumdog no it was a MAGA circlejerk since inception.the network effect ensures everyone stays on the largest blob of shit unless they get specifically banned so the only people that were out on it were a couple stragglers who genuinely care and a large blob of trumpists that were banned for being assholes.this was back when the standard was still higher than just being republican on facebook.
