@djsumdog I get the impression that there is a more open part of the Fediverse and a more closed part. Looking at the fediverse.network lists I could find, a lot of the more closed off servers are tiny, with maybe a few people in them.

@rok0 @abloo @meowski @coolboymew The only studies I have heard of suggest boomers are more easily scammed online. Not sure about other types of scam.I suspect that this may have nothing to do with boomers as a whole, other than the fact that they are aging. My parents are both medical doctors (my father having published research in high-end journals) and they fall for things like this on occasion.

@katie Not a scholarly reference in sight. You think there'd be a preprint at the very least of their findings floating around. A quick digging around shows that Yeadon was never head of research at Pfizer, but had a vice presidential position of a narrower scope within the company

@katie Regarding the first story: are you of the impression it was an inside job or something? Also, there were other buildings near the WTC that were destroyed by falling debris.Regarding the second: that was the fault of the US government lying (or at the very least being grossly incompetent). It seems weird to put the blame on media rather than on the Bush administration.

@djsumdog @icedquinn Minds is variable at best. It has seemingly been a MAGA circlejerk at times, though this may have just been the aftermath of Parler, as it seems to have lightened up somewhat last I checked

@mmasnickPersonally I think it makes the assumption that content moderation needs to be done at scale by specialists — a premise I find silly, but which I have also seen elsewhere — and ignores the existence of the Fediverse, Discord, or even forums.
