This is very frustrating. I'm trying to #migrate a #Mastodon profile. In the new account, I set an alias _to_ the old account. In the old account, I then try to use the Move feature.Every time, I get "is not an alias of this account".I've left it 12 hours, I've logged out of and in to both accounts. Both accounts are fully active and email verified. Every time, the same message.Any ideas?

@zigpress same, my only idea is that I have to wait a week or so to do it since I've already done it previously that same day, but i don't know.

I didn't want to bother an admin, but @kev or @mike - any ideas? I'm trying to move my followers from fosstodon.org to mastodon.technology.

@zigpress I've never moved an account, so I'm not sure. However, reading what you've explained above, I **think** you've done it the wrong way round? To me, making the old account an alias of the new account makes more sense, as that will now be your 'home' on the fediverse.Try making your Fosstodon account an alias of your masto.tech account, see if that works?@mike

@kev @mike That's what I did (I probably just explained it badly). In my masto.tech account, I set my fosstodon.org handle as an alias. In my fosstodon.org account I didn't set an alias, just tried the move process.Maybe there's a longer cache interfering somehow?

@zigpress I'm with @kev on this one in that I've never actually done this process, but I'd expect that you should set up the new account as an alias in your Fosstodon account, and then attempt the move from the new account.

@mike @kev That's the exact opposite of what the Mastodon documentation and profile pages say...

@zigpress When the documentation says something different than I do, believe the documentation.@kev

@mike @zigpress @kev for what it’s worth I’ve had really bad luck with the migration. I hope you find something easier but all I’ve found is to do it manually.

@chris @mike @kev Yep, I'm going to give it 24 hours, then try once more, then simply encourage my followers (few though they are) to join me at the new account.

@zigpress I hope he doesn't mind me throwing him under the bus here, but @kelbot just did a migration not that long ago. He might have some insight into the process that I don't.@chris @kev

@mike @zigpress @chris @kevI've only done this once so I'm not super familiar with it but it did work for me. I went to my new instance under profile and made the alias first. Then went back to the old instance and initiated the move. All my followers were moved but I had to manually import follows (people that I follow).
