@Debradelai Any Hedge Fund that was short this stock was not a professional to begin with. I would think any basic technical analysis would have screamed “buy” so if they did not listen they were trying to manipulate the market. The huge gap up is clearly shorts bailing out who should have been out a long time ago.

@Debradelai Sorry, I have to disagree. I trade futures 12 hours a day. The only reason I survived and now thrive is that I learned the manipulation strategies used by market makers et al and follow their lead. The GameStop situation is a case of the nerds playing the same game the pros play every day.

@Debradelai I understand that insider trading is unlawful.But in the GME instance, to my naive eye, appears to be the opposite.1. Institutional investors take a short position in excess of 100% of total available shares.2. This short position becomes public knowledge through normal channels.3. Individual investors take an advantageous position contrary to the short sale.4. Lots of chitter chatter about the outcome of 1-3 above in the media, etc.What am I missing?

@Debradelai @abnerhale How is it to be anti capitalist when one is advocating for markets not dominated by fraud and manipulation? Market manipulation occurs every day, every minute. Market makers make their (almost guaranteed) profits by pushing the market back and forth. That is an added expense to the end user of the markets.

@Debradelai Most people on Wall Street get caught when they're stupid. They control the prices pretty much at will.I don't agree with what the redditors did, and I do think it was nefarious and likely illegal at some level.However, the volume of stocks traded by the big firms gives them near total control of prices. What the redditors did is what Wall Street does every day. Their control was challenged, and that's what the uproar is about.
