       Blocking Trump and gang from Twitter will have some unintended consequences. The fringe discourse will shift to more untraceable places like WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, Mastodon instances, mailing lists etc.That may actually exacerbate the problems. Making technology unavailable to someone doesn't work in 21st century. You cannot stop any fringe movement by mere suppression. Banning from Twitter isn't the same as shutting down printing press of fascists in early 20th century.

       This van actually make the problem worse, brainwashing more severe. Since people in these closed groups will have less exposure to outside views. There is no alternative to humane engagement with these people. Online or offline.

       @aseem Actually enforcing the Twitter ToS from the beginning would've helped, though. If “banned from Twitter” meant you were a Nazi or a spammer, and being a Nazi meant you were banned from Twitter, there'd be a subtle social rejection effect even among right-wing circles.

       @aseem Yeah, but social media algorythms already created ideological ecochambers and had a risk of radicalization. Contrapoints' videos can only do so much. And this at least is taking a stance against non-acceptable speech. Alt-right/neonazi groups have existed for a long time. There's a really interesting podcast that studies their "safe spaces" called 'I don't speak German.'
