As a podcaster my job is to go promote my show to an audience wherever I can find that audience. If that means I have to go on normie platforms (LinkedIn Facebook Twitter YouTube etc) to try and teach them bitcoin and orange pill them, so be it. But where I see opportunities to shill bitcoin fediverse, I will do it. I hope more people will be open to the idea as twitter continues its downfall.

@stephanlivera the biggest issue I see is that Mastodon - at least initially - creates an even worse echo chamber than Twitter. The people who leave the bird site (or use both) are not a representative sample of the population. Perhaps it grows over time, and then we reap the benefits of federation, which should reduce filter bubbles. But there's a threshold to cross.

@sjors @stephanlivera i don't see filter bubbles as a big problem. everyone can handle it how they want. the goal, to me, is that there is no idiot stopping conversation between consenting adults in our "public square".

@waxwing @sjors @stephanlivera I thought the problem of filter bubbles was that someone else, unbeknownst to you, filters what you see.IIRC the example given was a Progressive following 'obviously' other progressives but for a (more) balanced view also follows Conservatives. So while *thinking* you get a balanced view, you only see the progressive posts bc you interact with them the most, thereby distorting your world view.AFAIK, that 'personalized' filtering doesn't happen here.Am I wrong?

@FreePietje @waxwing @sjors @stephanlivera It doesn't, no. Although, there are other implicit ways that bias is introduced. E.g. people who post a lot dominate your feed, when you would maybe want to prioritize those who post less quantity and more quality.

@kekcoin @waxwing @sjors @stephanlivera Very true. When I find someone potentially interesting but have a (very) high post count, I often don't follow them. I've recently found out how/where I can see when someone joined as that is/should be a very relevant factor in that. 1k posts in a month vs 1k posts in 3 years is quite different.

@sjors Prune as in unfollow if that person takes up too much of your timeline?

@sjors @stephanlivera The reason why we are here, is not because Twitter is the non-echo-chamber platform. Twitter is an echo-chamber of Wokeschaltung.

@Btcjerk @sjors @stephanlivera Correct. I made the word up in parallel to what the Nazis called "Gleichschaltung". Listen to this for an explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=7325&v=6GW-YMa68o4&feature=youtu.be
