I need a bot to answer my phone for me. Some lady named Rene has been using my number at various places and I get 20-30 calls every day.

@amolith Or just file her for harassment? (reminds me that I had to block Italy on my cellphone…)

@lanodan Still wouldn’t stop the calls though. They all end up asking for her and I say this is the wrong number, please don’t call me again, etc.

@tulpa But letting Google answer your phone for you and do STT on everything that’s said? :cirno_for_reals: It’s convenient but I would rather pay for my own VoIP number and run everything myself

@amolith start using the calls to build a profile on her to try and find out who she is. Track her down, take her out.

@amolith Yeah, I'm just messing with you. My more serious answer is that if it doesn't stop soon, you might find it worth the pain of changing your number.

@tulpa That’s something I should consider regardless. My phone has dual SIM support so I would be able to keep both and gradually migrate people that actually need my number from one to the other. It’s never a good idea to just get rid of it because so many companies use SMS 2FA though

@amolith @tulpa i don't know how to do it with an existing cell phone number but there are many places you can get pots-to-sip numbers and run your own pbx :comfyshrug: no, the open source secretaries aren't anywhere near as good.

@icedquinn @tulpa I don’t really need a secretary tho. I literally just want to play a message to anyone who calls, tell them I’m not Rene and they have the wrong number, and that if whoever’s calling actually wants me, that they need to call again within 30 minutes to be added to a whitelist and be put straight through in the future.Ideally :blobcatgoogly2:

@amolith @tulpa that you could do with a dialplan (probs) but i wouldn't know how to forward your cell phone number to the voip line.

@amolith @tulpa POTS: plain old telephone systemVOIP: voice over IPSIP: session initiation protocolbasically you can rent phone numbers that get answered by computers instead.but having it hijack a cell phone number is something i don't know how to get it to do.usually the way it works is you give everyone the voip number and it conditionally forwards the call to your cell phone.
