i have an internet friend from Florida who casually uses the words "nigger" and "faggot"thing is, i think it's mainly a tic. he isn't seriously out to get gays or blacks. it's just him being his dumb self. i mean, the guy spends a lot of time on image boards, including 4chan, so it's hardly surprising...he's the only person i know who talks like that though. i mean, when strangers begin shooting those words at me, i'm skeptical of it. "what kind of person would say that?"but somehow, i just allow it for this *one* guy?

@thor i don't think that's a tic, from what you're describing. people are very open about their prejudice when they think they're in 'safe' company, and people can be deeply prejudiced without having any intention to go out and 'get' anyone.just a suggestion, but i think it would be good mastodon etiquette to put a content warning for slurs on a post like this.

@tansyfeuilles i don't think so. you should be allowed to quote slurs. much like serious well reputed dictionaries to, with no trigger warnings.

@thor i would argue that etiquette, 'allowance', and dictionary usage are three different things. but more than that, i've offered a suggestion, not told ya what to do. your choice!
