@soft i strongly recommend snake plants or peace lilies! snake plants take little water and are pretty durable, while peace lilies droop dramatically when they need water, so they're communicating what they need. ♡

my relationship with other 'leftists' has become way less frustrating since i stopped using reddit and discord for anything other than gardening.i used online leftist communities to feel less alone, but the tendency always seems to drift towards doomer/acceleration mindsets, and incredible amounts of hostility. whoever is the most acerbic and radical wins the subreddit for the day, and whoever's the loudest takes control of the discord server.

i imagine the same is true for instagram, and i personally feel lucky that i only ever used instagram for play. when people in my circle started using Instagram for pseudo-organizing, i realized how many people are basing their entire view of 'the left' on like, meme pages and shareable stories.there is a HUGE gulf between the problems i encounter in my real-life ancom circle and what people were telling me (online) is happening on the left (online)

unless the algorithm wills it, you will NEVER hear about people in town doing good work. a lot of the people doing good work are also keeping their heads down, which is absolutely the smart choice.i think it's worth making a distinction between the leftists we know irl and 'the left' online, especially the ones in memespace. i hate my life a lot less now that i have put internet machismo where it belongs, and prioritized boring but essential work irl
