subtoot coming on...all right... where do i begin...first off...the Nazi nation of racism was mainly antagonistic against the jews, but their main concern was to avoid the mixing of the races. they of course felt that the Aryan race was superior... but the Chinese, who branded themselves as the Central Kingdom, felt the same way, so it's hardly unique to the Nazis. just seems like a typical human impulse to me. remember Avenue Que? "everyone's a little bit racist"? i believe that.genocide? bad, but again, hardly unique to the Nazis.ruthless top down decision making. you mean like most politicians in western democracies during the corona crisis? ends justifying the means? now, maybe this makes sense, but what if it doesn't?"there is no room for debate""no nuance here"that's on you, pal.Nazi apologist? naw.human apologist. i've received so much shit from humans. so much shit. it scarred me. if i allowed this to make me hate the people who did it? they were the everyman. various classmates who either bullied me or approved of said bullying. i'd have to hate human kind. i don't want to. so...

@thor We've had at least 75 years to reflect on naziism and there's nothing new to add to the discussion. I don't understand why you seem to think that any criticism of the nazis must come from a stance that naziism is the only evil thing that has ever existed. There can in fact be more than one bad thing in the world. You are being *willfully* obtuse.Naziism is defined by what makes it evil. What makes naziism different from other forms of fascism or far-right thought is genocide and eugenics.

@thor Your only rebuttals have been "what about this other bad thing?" or "what about how nazis were humans, huh?"

@tskaalgard the last one is indeed one thing i did argue. this is not to say that humans can't do bad things. what i am saying is that humans often do bad things in the name of goodness and genuinely believe in it. large swathes of Germany believed in it. does this mean that they were all bad people? it seems unreasonable, unlikely, to claim that, much as nearly half of the US population voting for Trump makes them bad people in the eyes of some.

@tskaalgard the only bona fide (yes i realise the irony here) bad people are sociopaths, but not because they are dark... but because they lack light. evil is a deficit, not an addition. more people need to understand this. evil is a lack of grasp. of understanding. a kind of ignorance.

@thor That's what dark means. It is literally the absence of light. Good people can be misled to evil actions. Our whole argument was about nazism, not about individual humans. You don't seem to get this.

@tskaalgard yes, dark vs light. that was indeed my point. but it is a deficit. good people can be misled to bad actions. now, my primary way of understanding what the masses do is through the individual's perspective because that's what ultimately causes mass action. the individual reacts in rather predictable ways and from this emerges ideologies, human rights violations, genocide and most evils of the world that we humans have created.

@thor What you're talking about is for every day mistakes and/or things that don't, in fact, cause the murder of more than six million humans.

@tskaalgard yes. i'm fully aware of that. mistakes can be big or small. thing is, the people who ordered this were basically mentally ill.reptiles don't care about death. humans with reptile levels of empathy don't either. but do you think a newborn baby decides "i'm going to be a psychopath?" they don't because they're born with it.so, what i think is that such broken people must be prevented from causing harm.but at the same time.... an entire nation did not step in to stop the genocide. do you think millions of Germans were evil? they acted in what they saw as good faith.it was a severe, monumental, incomprehensible mistake... but they did feel they acted in good faith, could they have known better? i believe not. given the circumstances, it had to happen that way.

@tskaalgard my sister is in prison. most of her fellow inmates committed some kind of violent crime, often murder. i firmly believe that anyone who does such a thing was either born broken (i.e. they couldn't help it) or were broken by somebody else (i.e. they couldn't help it).now, what i've realised is that this is the case for everything. if you're fucked up, you could never have helped it.

@tskaalgard so, i thus have difficulty according the validity of imprisonment as punishment, because you are always, every time, punishing something that doesn't be helped.

@thor People are afraid of 'contamination by association', Nazism is a taboo topic in Western societies, it is very heavily charged and the majority would rather quickly shut down the discussion than risk being perceived as somehow associated with it.
