Like a lot of people, I've been going through a really challenging and sometimes distressing time this year. I have been finding it harder and harder to relax, due to the knot of anxious in my chest, which over the past few days has grown into full blown panic attacks. I think I really need a good cry, but that's something I struggle to do.

Can anybody recommend any good grieving songs/ albums? I've been listening to 'Everybody Hurts' by REM and the Counting Crows album 'August and Everything After' (showing my age here π) to try to connect with my sadness and frustration, and express it. But it would be good to have a wider selection. #music #EmotionalFirstAid

@strypey I always go back to the Nothing is Sound album from Switchfoot, when trying to connect to my sadness.

I was just listening to Gollum's Song from Lord of the Rings and every time EmilΓana Torrini sang "We are lost/ We can never go home" I sobbed for all the ways we've lost homes this year π

@strypey I'm sorry you've been going through such a tough patch. That totally sucks. I've always appreciated your thoughtful posts and ideas, and the respectful way that you treat other people here.Panic attacks sound like a living hell. No one deserves that. All I can share is what has helped me. Jesus. Ok. I'm joking. In all seriousness, though, it's asking myself what I'm grateful for and making myself answer. Feels cheesy at first, but damn if it doesn't work (for me, at least). *hugs*

@strypey I'm sorry you are going through this :blobcry: A nice album is Electro-Shock Blues by Eels, I usually go back to that one. I've been listening a lot to Montage Images of Lust & Fear by The Underground Youth these days and I think it might fit your mood, at least musically.

@Blort> I've always appreciated your thoughtful posts and ideas, and the respectful way that you treat other people here. Thanks for saying so. I struggle to accept compliments - especially glowing and sincere ones (I can tell because it's so specific) - so just reading that got me sobbing. Thanks so much for that π

@strypey PS I'd also add that when my answers include being grateful for someone else (which it almost always does) then sharing what I'm grateful for with them is always twice as powerful.I can't speak to your situation. It seems to me though that so much of the stress and the fear that we're all feeling recently has it's roots in being a social species currently disconnected from each other.Take care.Your friendly, neighbourhood Blort.

@strypey the UK lockdown has not been kind to me. I am a bit crazy at the best of times but this has escalated somewhat over the last nine months. I think that a lot of things that would ordinarily come up between people and then be sorted out in a face to face meeting are not being sorted out so tensions are rising generally. Also there is something about meeting another person face to face that for most people helps us regulate our emotions and feel more at ease, so people are missing that.

@highfellow I'm sorry to hear you have been struggling too, hope things have been looking up for you over the last few months. Aotearoa (NZ) has the advantage of geographical isolation and strong border controls (for bio-security reasons) and we've only had a few weeks of lockdown here and there. So the things haunting me are more specific to the ways the pandemic has affected my life situation over the last year or so.
