@strypey I was interested in the Smallest Federated Wiki at one point. I think it's an interesting idea.

@moonman but you know that you know them, whereas I might not know that I don't know them?

@strypey @Wolf480pl I was volunteering on a community forest garden project for a while, and we used to use bark in this way.

@strypey I like this article for the way it acknowledges the messiness of human life and politics.

@strypey this is the kind of dynamic I struggle with a lot. To the extent that some variant of it landed me in mental hospital 20 years ago, something I am still getting over. I tend to identify with radical ideas but also have issues with the way that radical groups tend to have quite rigid with us or against us dynamics. A friend said something about an old anarchist slogan being 'there is no them and us, just us'. I like this idea even though it throws up contradictions.

@liaizon I don't see the point of this because people are only going to be following that account. If the police wanted to follow people on mastodon they could do so by registering accounts in other names. Suspending their account might make people feel safer but it seems like a false sense of security.

@strypey the UK lockdown has not been kind to me. I am a bit crazy at the best of times but this has escalated somewhat over the last nine months. I think that a lot of things that would ordinarily come up between people and then be sorted out in a face to face meeting are not being sorted out so tensions are rising generally. Also there is something about meeting another person face to face that for most people helps us regulate our emotions and feel more at ease, so people are missing that.

I am interested in the idea that the fediverse should be working towards tools for online communication that are not only decentralised and anti monopolistic, but also allow for different social spaces than we have in the mainstream networks? I sometimes find Facehook a really difficult place to be, not only because of the way the algorithm works and the agenda that is coming from the owners but also because the social structure of it seems to encourage excessive groupiness and egoism.

@cypnk there is the point that a screenshot is not proof of anything because they are not hard to fake. The only real proof is if someone has access to the post in question and can verify it themselves. It's still wise to think about what you want to post though.

@cypnk I guess in theory you could have a QR code embedded in the post with a digital signature of the message, but that would be kind of against the spirit of having things like direct messages etc, so none of the networks do it, which I take to be a good thing!

@strypey I am in a similar position to you skills wise so I can't speak with authority, but I read a book recently called the pragmatic programmer which seemed to have good advice on the tools you'd need and the attitude and philosophy that would help if you want to work as a programmer. https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=5wBQEp6ruIAC&printsec=frontcover&dq=pragmatic+programmer+goodreads&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi-3_DjkOL3AhVcQEEAHSUcCRoQ6AF6BAgMEAM#v=onepage&q&f=false

@strypey some of their code is available here https://github.com/orgs/openai/repositories . Not sure if it includes everything.
