So disappointed in Mozilla recently. Their response to the Google antitrust case was unforgivable, in my opinion.I worked for the Foundation 2012-15, having mostly an incredible time with super-talented people. However, in the last five years, and especially since Mitchell Baker took over as CEO of the Corporation again, Mozilla has lost its way. I was talking to someone who left there earlier this year who said it's turned into a kind of 'court' with those in favour and those not 😕

However, those criticising Mozilla should be talking about realistic alternatives. Especially if they themselves have a history of peddling vapourware.

@dajbelshaw When it comes to the web though, there is now no alternative. Google run the w3c and have recently announced they will start banning all but their and Mozilla's engines from Google products, Mozilla are 99% dependent on Google for revenue and are forever playing catch-up. No other browser engine can keep up with deliberately rapid-shifting standards. There'd been a steady downward trend in practical browser-engine choice: only 3 remain. The world wide web is dead.

@dajbelshaw I've taken the blackpill on browsers. Mozilla as an entity exists to pass every standard Google proposes without fail, while taking money under the table from them. This way there's a shallow illusion of "competition" so Google doesn't get anally ruptured from US Anti-Trust law. Every other major browser is just a soft fork of Chromium's web engine anyway.

@dajbelshaw That's not to say "hope is lost" it's to say "hope is elsewhere" - the next "web" insofar as the spirit and dream of the web, is perhaps to be found in #Gemini, though I have issues with the "get-only" design philosophy and I think they need to anticipate the likelihood that someone will introduce client side scripting like it or not, if it gets popular. But it has the look and feel of an early alternative.Mozilla are captured in the dying WWW. I think they're done.
