Cell phone pricing makes no sense. My current phone is kind of crapping out and I'm not ready to attempt something like Pinephone as a daily driver, so I'm planning to pickup a new Pixel on a black Friday deal.Currently, both the 4a and 5 are on sale (only through the carrier, not unlocked, unfortunately). The 4a 5G, which is really what I'd like, is currently not on sale and actually costs 50% than the Pixel 5 as a result.

Despite the slower processor, the standard 4a seems like it's actually a better phone the the 5. But the 4a 5G would be pretty much perfect if it was priced appropriately. But part of me wonders if the 5 might be more future proof due to the better processor (which tests suggest is highly throttled to improve battery life...so maybe not; And I don't want to have to deal with Bluetooth headphones).Any thoughts from the hivemind?

@ink_slinger we need to find a replacement for @squirrel 's ZenFone which has a cracked display. Might get another one but different model unlocked from Staples. Not stellar but not too much preinstalled crap and reasonable price. My own BlackBerry DTEK60 is pretty old now and battery is going weird (again) but I think I can manage using my PinePhone since I did go for awhile in the summer using it regularly, so will probably swap back to it soon with a different / updated OS

@msh @squirrel My phone before the current one was a Zenfone and I quite liked it. Getting replacement parts after the display died was next to impossible, though, which is why I went with a different brand more recently (I was going to go Motorola, for ease of getting parts, but ended up getting a Nokia because it had a similar price but somewhat better specs and AndroidOne for updates direct from Google).I'm looking at Pixel mostly for the timely updates.
